This evening was the Bedford North Lawrence Invite Cross Country Meet. Eighteen school participated. They kicked off the meet with the A race (the top seven male runners from each school.) Being in sixth grade up against mostly seventh and eighth grade competition and around 150 runners, Ely was nervous. He told us on the car ride out to BNLHS that he would be happy with 90th place. Of course Philly and I had to have a little pep talk with him after that statement.
A few encouraging words and a little warm up session. They were ready to start the race.
And they're off!Like thunder on the ground as this large crew gains speed.
If you look at the picture below, Ely is the head popping out (just a tad) behind the guy that tripped. Look below the x,,,,,,,,,.x Ha!
No hesitation though. Ely hopped right over him and continued on. He started out close the back of the running crew but caught up soon enough.
Keep your eyes on the florescent green socks.
He made it up that hill like a champ.
Turned the corner like a pro.
Found a little more speed deep with in.
And here he goes in for the kill!
This is what 58th place looks like fresh off the course.
We have all had that feeling (at least once) of "I did better than I could have ever imagined!" I think Ely's smile says it all!
Fantastic job Ely! We are so very proud of you. And doesn't 58 beat the time out of 90? I thought so!!
